Zee One surprises its viewers with fresh content that looks, feels and sounds different to what they are used to. Still staying true to the Telenovela genre, Carmen, a remake of the Hindi series Kareena Kareena offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of characters based in the Middle East and North Africa.
The show is set to test the waters for edgier, gritty and untraditional content on the channel. Research studies have shown that consumers want content that pushes the boundaries in terms of storylines and allows them a glimpse into a world or culture they are not familiar with.
The series is written by Khaled Hamam and directed by Hussein Shawkat. Reham Hajjaj, who plays Carmen, says, “I enjoyed playing this role as the character is bold and forced me to dig deep within myself to bring this character to life.”
The story is centred around Carmen, who follows her dreams of being rich and famous in the busy streets of Cairo. She starts working as a presenter at a popular radio station but lied to win the position; her lies give rise to some comic and awkward situations.
The English dubbed Carmen kicks off in December 2022, followed by a short-form series with thrills, drama and intense action in the new year.
In keeping with the fresh storyline approach, the channel will launch new, never-seen-before series centred around medical mishaps in “Between You And Me” and precognition in the drama series “Trinayani” in the coming months.
As the saying goes, “give the people what they want”, and Zee One will do just that by offering a solid mix of popular Indian novels and alternate programming that is sure to satisfy the appetite of its vast audiences across Africa.
Carmen will premiere on Zee One from the 6th of December at 8 pm daily.
