Since the beginning of the virus, more than 200 000 South African citizens have died from the coronavirus. However, the numbers have finally started to decline, resulting in a concert to thank and honour all health workers who risked their lives to save these people during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The medical workers themselves report struggling with trauma and physical and mental exhaustion in recent months. But small gestures such as receiving a free coffee and especially the great concert have supported them and made them feel that they and their work were seen and appreciated in the public’s eyes.
According to the healthcare workers who have been operating through the crisis for months, the falling numbers are a relief. However, the staff is calling for a better structure to improve their working conditions.
