Mdlalose, who is currently the Managing Director of Vodacom Tanzania – a position he has held since August 2021 – will assume the role held by Balesh Sharma.
He will be reporting directly to Vodacom Group CEO Shameel Joosub and will join the Vodacom Group executive committee.
Mdlalose is a Harvard Business School Senior Executive Programme graduate and a qualified Chartered Accountant (ACCA).
He has acquired over 20 years of experience in finance, consulting and management, of which 13 years were spent in telecommunications across both emerging and developed markets.
Vodacom Group CEO Shameel Joosub said, “I am certain that Mdlalose is the best candidate to lead Vodacom South Africa in a difficult economic climate that requires proactive innovations designed to adapt to changes in customer behaviour. His proven track record makes him an ideal choice for this vital role. I want to personally congratulate Sitho as we celebrate yet another internal promotion, indicating the strong bench of executive talent within Vodacom.”
Prior to joining Vodacom Group, Mdlalose worked at Vodafone Group, where he held various leadership roles, including CFO for International Business.
Mdlalose was also the Interim Group CFO and Finance Director for Vodacom South Africa before being appointed MD of Vodacom Tanzania in 2021.
“Mdlalose has demonstrated strong leadership in driving Vodacom’s business strategy during his short term at Vodacom Tanzania. His leadership style has been a valuable asset in rallying support amongst key stakeholders surrounding the business, including policymakers, customer relations and staff management,” added Joosub.
