During the recently held #PreserveAfricaArchive online forum on Auditing And Preparing Broadcast Archives For Digital Preservation In Africa, Mr Wole Coker – the Executive Director of Programmes – Nigerian Television Authority’s (NTA) was asked whether NTA has a national strategy for digitisation of archival materials.
Mr Coker retorted that most materials held by the broadcaster might be fast becoming obsolete due to ageing; therefore, the materials required restoration, digitisation and ultimately, preservation and access. Mr Coker also noted that in working out a strategy to bridge all the functional gaps, he would propose to create a centralised system that would allow global access to preserved archives materials. With that said, Mr Coker stressed that budgets and funding remain the biggest hindrance to the digitisation of materials at his organisation.
