The seventh edition of the Iraqi Wasit International Short Film Festival has selected two Egyptian films to be showcased at the festival. The festival kicks off today, 01 June, and will run until Friday, 03 June 2022.
The two films scheduled for screening include ‘Beware of the Monster’ by Abdelrahman Hamad and a virtual reality short film directed by Wael Abu Talib.
‘Beware of the Monster’ follows the story of Hassan, who has problems with his wife, which lead him to see her as the true monster.
The film stars Mariam Said, Micheal Mounir, Mohammed Abdel-Aziz as well as Adam El-Nahas.
The second entry is a virtual reality experience directed by Wael Abu Talib.
Organised by the Iraqi Arts, Cinema, and Theatre Foundation, the festival will host participants from 12 countries, including Egypt, Iraq, Tunisia, Morocco, Bahrain, Libya, the UAE, Algeria, Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan, and India.
According to Abbas Al-Aboudi, head of the Arts, Cinema, and Theatre Foundation, this year’s edition of the festival will be held in honour of Iraqi actress Fatima Al-Rubaiy, who has contributed to the growth of the industry.
