The International Tourism Film Festival of Africa (ITFFA) has opened a call for submissions for the international version of the festival, with a deadline of January 31, 2022.
The International Tourism Film Festivals Committee (CIFFT) proudly hosts the festival in cooperation with the ITFFA, founded in 2019. Although CIFFT’s partnership with the ITFFA is their first official backing of such an event on the African continent, their core mission since 1989 has been to reward excellence in travel video marketing by encouraging tourism destinations to achieve excellence in digital storytelling to promote their products, services, and locations.
Despite the challenging past two years, over 2,000 submissions from 97 countries have been received since the inaugural event in 2019. CIFFT director Alexander V. Kammel says: “Each year, almost 3,500 films compete for the title of World’s Best Tourism Films, and African countries are underrepresented. It is past time to demonstrate that Africa is brimming with talented men and women who should be showcased to the world’s creative community. As a result, CIFFT is a major supporter of the ITFFA initiative.”
David Maynier, the Western Cape’s Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities says: “The Western Cape is quickly becoming known for its diverse creative communities, which help to drive economic growth in the film and tourism industries. Events like the International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA) not only help the Western Cape Province grow economically, but they also celebrate the men and women who create innovative video content, which helps to market the province.”
“We’re ecstatic to be able to bring the best of Africa’s digital tourism marketing content to a worldwide audience,” says James Byrne, the ITFFA’s co-director.
The jury will evaluate the works submitted based on impact, creativity, style, subject matter, storytelling, and goal efficacy. The jury will be made up of local and international professionals and celebrities from the tourism, marketing, and film industries.
Lifetree Marketing & Media, DurbanTV, Sustainable Tourism Partnership Programme, African Tourism Council, and Legito Publishing are among the promotional and other partners supporting ITFFA.
