Vodacom Tanzania, together with Eutelsat Communications, have inked a deal that will boost access and connectivity to remote, underserved regions by utilising a new-generation High Throughput Satellite by Eutelsat’s KONNECT.
The Vodacom brand will deliver the services whilst installation of equipment at the various remote locations will be carried out by Konnect Africa.
Vodacom Tanzania PLC’s Managing Director, Sitholizwe Mdlalose, says, “We are thrilled to have leveraged EUTELSAT KONNECT’s state-of-the-art satellite. By incorporating satellite to our suite services at Vodacom, we will successfully fulfil our mandate to deliver connectivity to all regions within the country.”
“This partnership means that the service we aim to provide will connect everyone, including areas currently not covered today, allowing access to services up to 100Mbps.”
Adding to Mdlalose’s statement, the CEO of Konnect Africa, Philippe Baudrier, said, “We are excited to collaborate with the leading pan-African telecom operator, Vodacom, giving access to an extended reach of its services in Tanzania. This deal illustrates the unparalleled resources of our powerful EUTELSAT KONNECT satellite to meet the ever-rising demand for connectivity in underserviced regions. In addition, this deal marks a huge leap toward successfully developing our distribution capabilities following our recent additions in South Africa, Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).”
Eutelsat KONNECT has been in service since the end of 2020, providing a new-generation High Throughput Satellite that has been used to deliver significant resources for broadband services. Eutelsat KONNEC is proud of its quasi-complete coverage of Sub-Saharan Africa and direct-to-user consumer and enterprise broadband services.
