Established in 1997, MultiChoice Tanzania, a subsidiary of Africa’s leading pay-tv operator, has announced that, as of September 1, DStv charges on all bouquets will be increased. Subscribers on the Premium bouquet would now have to pay US$ 1325,41 from the US$ 1270,57 that they were paying previously, according to information gathered from their call centre.
Customers on the Compact Plus tariff plan will be charged US$ 850,09 per month, up from US$ 813,53. Subscribers on the Compact tariff plan, on the other hand, will pay US$ 466,18 instead of US$ 447,90. In addition, subscribers to the Family bouquet will now pay US$ 283,36 instead of US$ 273,31, and subscribers to the Access bouquet will now pay US$ 191,96 instead of US$ 273,31.
The amended fee schedule, which goes into effect on September 1, 2021, will see a five to nine per cent increase for DStv. In addition, MultiChoice Kenya stated last week that it had hiked DStv tariffs by up to 6.3 per cent to reduce rising operating costs. The pay-tv operator began sending text messages to its customers notifying them of the forthcoming increase in tariffs but did not explain why.
The tariff hikes come at the back of MultiChoice’s recent announcement of having acquired exclusive rights to some of the world’s most renowned football leagues and events, including the EPL, UEFA Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Conference League, La Liga, and many others.
