‘Surviving Gaza” – eMedia’s online streaming platform original film – which is set against the vibrant kwaito era in South Africa is set to debut on Thursday, February 24.
The Vusi Africa Film presents the story of Phuzi, a 17-year-old who faces some difficult decisions when he must choose between his desire for a career in kwaito, love, and a life of crime.
His childhood sweetheart returns to Gaza soon after Phuzi’s family bury his grandfather, as if he didn’t have enough on his plate already.
Thandeka’s homecoming not only gives Phuzi hope for a better future, but it also offers some good news: that a kwaito tournament is looking for contestants. Thandeka (Samke Makhoba) believes that Phuzi has what it takes to succeed in the competition. But, at the same time, his friends are set to establish themselves as a crime duo.
In addition to the lead roles, the film features a mix of new and familiar talent, including Ayanda Daweti (Titus) and Mpho Molepo (Cash Zonke), and is likely to entertain all audiences with mesmerizing cinematography.
The Trial By Media Film Director, Vusi Africa, says that we are all fighting against something we are trying to survive.
“We all have a Gaza that we need to face.” This film reflects the ambitions and dreams of young people from all over South Africa who are all fighting for their dreams, striving to survive in a society that is struggling to meet their needs.”
“We are pleased to offer another eVOD Original movie in the space of six months,” says Helga Palmer, eMedia’s Head of Local Programming. Surviving Gaza is the typical coming-of-age story, with themes of dreams, peer pressure, choices, and repercussions.”
She claims that the film provides a very realistic view of the struggles that South Africa’s youth face.
