On Monday, August 2nd, the 24-hour television news broadcaster eNCA (DStv 403), also referred to as eNews Channel Africa, began broadcasting from eMedia Investments’ new building in Johannesburg from new studio space within the building. The new studios include a wall-to-ceiling window behind the anchor desk that clearly shows how it looks outside.
The relocation from e. tv’s Hyde Park offices in Johannesburg to a new eNCA studio has been long in the making, with the broadcaster announcing the move three years ago in July 2019. The e.tv owned broadcaster’s new studio space is located near the previous 5 Summit Road building in Hyde Park and studio 102. eNCA broadcasted there until this past Friday. The revamp comes after rival South African TV news channel Newzroom Afrika introduced its new studio space in March this year after four months.
The new eMedia Investments building is on Albury Road, just across from the refurbished “west block” building at 5 Summit Road. In addition to eNCA personnel, the facility also houses employees from e.tv, eMedia Sales, Openview, and the YFM radio station.
In an interview with the channel, eNCA managing director Norman Munzhelele noted that moving to and broadcasting from the new building “has been a long trip due to Covid.” And that the news broadcaster has plans to install Africa’s most prominent video wall in 3 to 4 months. “The building will allow eNCA to make the most of the video wall,” he added. In addition, the company intends to soon move to a larger studio space within the facility.
