Clare O’Neil has been appointed as the new Chief Operation Officer of Primedia. With vast experience in media, broadcasting and marketing, O’Neil is one of the most respected leaders in the industry.
According to Primedia, O’Neil will coordinate the group’s operational growth by upscaling synergies, directing group marketing and research strategies, and unpacking innovative data initiatives.
She previously held positions at the SABC as General Manager of TV Sales and Commercial Sales Director at eTV. O’Neil also established and led the Broadcast Research Council of South Africa (BRCSA).
O’Neil also served on the SABC board from 2010 to 2013, in which she was instrumental in returning the public broadcaster to solvency.
Speaking on O’Neil’s appointment, Primedia Group’s Chairperson, Phumzile Langeni, said, “With O’Neil’s passion for transforming businesses and developing talent, she will indeed contribute to Primedia. Her continuous mentoring of young talent, particularly young women, will be of immense value. O’Neil’s appointment as the group’s COO comes when the Board and the CEO are ensuring that young female talent throughout our businesses are recognised and uplifted in line with our holistic transformation agenda.”
O’Neil has also successfully led and transformed an Out-of-Home Sales Agency that aims to empower Young Black Women.
Sharing her delight, O’Neil said, “I view my role as one of facilitator. I want to create an environment that ensures and delivers on the overall corporate strategy. My passion lies not only in optimising operations and ensuring that they are future-fit but in developing people”.
O’Neil will be joining Randall Abrahams, who was recently announced as Chief Executive Officer of Primedia.
