The radio arm of Kagiso Media, South Africa’s largest black-owned media company, has announced new leadership appointments. According to management, this is the result of the changes made to its structure, which are supposed to bring more value to the company’s audiences, commercial partners, and platforms.
Due to the adjustments, the company’s industry-leading digital content team will be repositioned as a specialised Audience Acquisition section. According to Kagiso Media’s chief executive of radio, Nick Grubb,” by refining some of the existing divisions and bringing in some new blood, the company would be able to take all of this capacity to the next level.”
In September, Melissa McNally, a research consultant specialist, will join the team as the group’s research and analytics manager. McNally has worked in the field of research for over 15 years. She started her career in social research before moving on to market research, where she specialised in brand health and media studies. McNally was elected to the board of the Broadcast Research Council of South Africa earlier in 2021. Her professional highlights include working on the South African Infinite Dial study and contributing to the design of the new RAMS.
Anthea Carstens has been appointed as audience acquisition manager. Carstens has spent the last 20 years in the digital media industry. She joined Kagiso Media in 2012 and has worked on a range of publishing products since then. Carstens most recently worked for East Coast Radio and Jacaranda FM as a content and data strategist. According to the station, she will continue collaborating closely with the stations to expand their current audiences.
Marius van der Walt has also been appointed as Kagiso Media’s radio news editor for Jacaranda FM and East Coast Radio. Van der Walt began as a weekend freelancer for Jacaranda FM in 2007 and worked his way up to news editor. He is overjoyed to be adding East Coast Radio to his portfolio.
