Showmax streaming service is widening its East African slate of original programming, with four new shows being piloted in 2022.
Showmax says this is coming at the heels of the success of Kenya’s first Showmax original ‘Crime and Justice’ series running for the second season.
MultiChoice Channel Director for East and Southern Africa, Timothy Okwaro, said, “We have partnered with new production companies to increase our product offerings to provide viewers with the best stories in different dynamics of life, from thrillers to crime dramas to political thrillers.”
“Showmax subscribers can expect captivating local stories that will keep them tuned in. This new slate shows our commitment to working with local producers, both newcomers and established, to give viewers what they want,” he added.
Showmax’s East Africa production slate will include, Igizac – which is currently in production- a 13 episode thriller series that follows twin sisters, Linda and Nicole, at war after a betrayal that changes their lives forever.
Serah Ndanu plays the role of Linda and Nicole, alongside Blessing Lung’aho, Kevin Samuel, Emmanuel Mugo, Ainea Ojiambo, Sheila Ndanu and Torome Sision co-starring.
The series is produced by Abdi Shuria, King Muriuki and Abu Melita under their company Yare Productions.
The slate also includes Pepeta, a drama series to begin production in April 2022. CJ3 is producing Pepeta.
Reube Odanga will produce Kenya’s first-ever Christmas feature film.
Other Showmax originals set in Kenya include a crime drama series, a political thriller series and a thriller series that stars Serah Ndanu and Blessing Lung’aho.
