Multichoice’s Showmax says it wants to give its customers more control over their data usage by introducing what is called the “Max Data Saving Mode” that uses just 50MB per hour on its platform.
The Max Data Saving mode is available within the iOS mobile version of the Showmax app and will soon be available to Android app users.
This comes after Showmax introduced the Low and Data Savings modes that use up to 300MB and 100MB per hour.
When looking at the Maximum Quality setting, which provides the best picture, uses up to 1.4GB per hour.
The Chief Operating Officer of MultiChoice Connected Video, Barry Dubovsky, said, “Showmax is created for Africa: a mobile-first continent where data cost remains a hindrance to online streaming.
“Showmax was Africa’s first streaming platform to offer mobile downloads for offline viewing and the first to launch a mobile plan, so we will continue adjusting Showmax to fit African realities.”
What makes Showmax different is that it offers a combination of African Originals and hit local shows, as well as first and exclusive international series, popular movies, premium documentaries, and the best kids’ shows.
