The highly anticipated reality show in Nigeria, The Real Housewives of Lagos (RHOLagos), streaming on Showmax, has collaborated with MTN Nigeria to lighten the burden of data costs and subscription fees for customers to watch the show on the streaming platform.
Starting on 8 April 2022, the streaming package from MTN and Showmax will allow MTN customers to go to the MTN app or Showmax website and pay for the 30-day Showmax Mobile or Showmax Pro Mobile subscription by using their airtime voucher in exchange for discounted data.
Nathan Hanley, Chief Expansion Officer at Showmax, said, “We need to create ways that will meet the needs of Africa’s mobile-first continent. So we have created a mobile-only edition of Showmax at a lower subscription price, and by applying the settings on the Showmax app, subscribers can use less data an hour. In addition, MTN customers in Nigeria can pay for their Showmax subscription using their airtime voucher.”
According to Aisha Umar Mumuni, the acting Chief Digital Officer of MTN Nigeria, the purpose of the collaboration is “to give Nigerians access to the best entertainment at a reasonable price.”
RHOLagos will feature Carolyna Hutchings, Laura Ikeji-Kanu, Chioma Ikokwu, Toyin Lawani-Adebayo, Iyabo Ojo and Mariam Timmer, and the show is the first Nigerian adaptation of the international franchise by NBCUniversal Formats.
The RHOLagos reality show joins local Showmax Originals, including I Am LAYCON, starring winner of BBNaija 5 and musician Laycon Olamilekan Agbeleshe; Ghana Jollof, and comedian Basketmouth, alongside talk show host Toke Makinwa.
