
Showmax, a video streaming platform, will honour 30 Nollywood actresses who have made and continue to make iconic contributions to Nigeria’s film industry this March in commemoration of the United Nations’ International Women’s Day.
Showmax will feature a different women, ranging from budding stars to A-list actresses and producers each day. Bimbo Ademoye, ChineyLove Eze, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Genevieve Nnaji, Kate Henshaw, Biodun Stephen, and Tope Oshin are among the actresses.
Others who are movie directors, costumers, set designers, writers and make-up artists include award-winning make-up artist Lola Maja, Yolanda Okereke-Fubara (costume designer), Dami Elebe (screenwriter), award-winning set designer and make-up artiste Uche Nancy.
“Nollywood, one of the world’s largest film industries, as a platform created by Africans for Africans to showcase and tell original stories that resonate makes it important to recognise everyone who contributes to telling these stories, especially the women who have played a remarkable part its growth,” Candice Fangueiro, Head of Content, Showmax Africa, said. These women, some of whom work behind the scenes, have continued to spend their time and talent in pushing the African story forward, and this is a cause that Showmax is very passionate about.”
To that aim, Showmax will honour these trailblazers and doers throughout March, notably on March 8, the United Nations’ International Women’s Day. Atarodo, The Rishantes, A Thousand Ways To Break A Cheating Man, E.V.E, Unmarried, and others are among the films with strong female leads due to release this month.
