South Africa’s public broadcasting service provider, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), has announced actress and production executive Lala Tuku as the new Head of Local Content.
Tuku’s current role is Managing Director at Clive Morris Production, which she is wrapping up in order to resume her new role with the national broadcaster in effect as of June 2022.
Lala will be overseeing all three SABC channels, SABC1,2 and 3, as the Head of Local Productions and will be reporting to the Group Executive Video Entertainment.
In a statement across her social media platforms, Lala wrote, “I am truly honoured and excited to join the South African Broadcasting Corporation to further strengthen and drive the strategic direction for local content. The National Broadcaster remains an integral entity and the voice for the people of South Africa”.
“We hold a critical mandate to elevate and become catalysts for local productions by telling entertaining, informative and compelling content. My passion for local storytelling and the industry as a whole will contribute immensely to this vision,” Lala said.
As a seasoned professional in the creative arts sector, Tuku is believed and trusted to have an intimate understanding of local film and the television industry. Beyond her behind-the-scenes experience within the industry, Tuku made her mark in front of the screen playing Paris Zondi on eTV’s Scandal!
