The issue of “unique” heritage materials and the type of use permitted is often unclear to many archivists and preservation professionals.
Oftentimes, collectors are in possession of these heritage materials and invariably do not enable archivists and preservationists to use the library to achieve public-oriented goals.
In addition, archives and libraries usually receive “unique” heritage materials from collectors – rather than from actual creators – and when the material reaches a library, the archive has to strive for the materials to be handled in a way that does not infringe unclear IP and copyright conditions.
As part of the Industry Programme on #PreserveAfricaArchives, Broadcast Media Africa (BMA) as the administrator of the industry programme will be hosting the industry forum on ‘Archives Access And Exploitation: Dealing With Rights And IP Restrictions’ on Thursday, 10 February 2022, at 11h00 GMT via the Zoom platform.
The online industry forum will examine how best to execute increased access to inventory whilst allowing continued restrictions and regulation of materials.
In conjunction with Apricity Consulting, BMA invites you to register for the online forum by visiting the event website!
