“Money Miss Road”, an action-comedy film, is set to premiere across cinemas in Nigeria, the United States of America, Canada and the United Kingdom on 22 July 2022.
Speaking at a press conference recently, Joy Odiete, the producer of the film and Chief Executive Officer of Blue Pictures Cinema, indicated that the film is an action-comedy, a combination rarely seen in Nigerian cinemas, as seen from the trajectory and history of the box office.
“Money Miss Road” promises to be educational, entertaining and refreshing,” she said.
Obi Emelonye, the director of the film, spoke on the choice of the title and said it was deliberately picked in order to localise it to gain global attention.
Emelonye, who is also the scriptwriter, mentioned that the inspiration for the film came from one of his movies shot in 2005.
“Viewers will experience intense comedy and laugh-out-loud moments; it is a movie to keep a date with,” he added.
The film stars Jidekene Achufusi, who shared her delight, saying, “I was excited with the role and it being a comedy film. I had always wanted to try new things, and I am delighted to have been able to bridge the gap between tragedy and comedy.”
According to Achufusi, the film was shot within a month, adding that he sustained several injuries during the period.
“Money Miss Road,” tells a story of two jolly friends (Joseph and Josiah) whose chanced encounter with Diokpa (Charly Boy), a ruthless criminal kingpin, set them up for a life of luxury and misery. However, their race for survival unravelled when the duo forgot their initial plight of poverty.
The film will premiere across Nigeria, the United States of America, Canada and the United Kingdom on 22 July 2022.
