
This year the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) have collaborated with StarTimes, the major pay-tv company in Nigeria, to host a one of a kind film festival for short films.
The collaboration aligns with StarTimes and AMAA’s pledge to expand the Nigerian and African film industry.
The creator of AMAA, Pease Anyiam-Osigwe, mentioned the collaboration in Lagos, saying, “I am delighted to share a new undertaking which has long been brewing between AMAA and StarTimes. These major media and television entities have collaborated to expand the film industry in Nigeria and Africa primarily for short films.”
CEO of StarTimes, Alex Jian, mentioned that the partnership with AMAA is of paramount importance with the increased need for authentic, quality content by Nigerian and African Filmmakers.
Ms Anyiam-Osigwe included that the collaboration will see short films broadcasted from Mondays to Fridays on StarTimes leading channels such as ST Nollywood Plus, ST Nollywood, and ST Yoruba between 4 PM and 6 PM.
The event organisers have issued a call to submit entries from filmmakers equipped in or have short films.
“This partnership is big to us because it enables us to grow the short film industry in Nigeria and Africa. We are happy that StarTimes keyed into this journey with us to give opportunities to young and existing filmmakers.”
Entries are to be submitted between 20 March 2022 to 14 April 2022. “The festival is set to begin on 25 April 2022 and run for a whole month till 25 May 2022.
