MultiChoice Nigeria has agreed with Nigeria’s Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria (MCSN) to now pay for the use of music in the future and how back-payments already settled must be distributed to artists.
Recall that MCSN and MultiChoice Nigeria have had legal battles whereby MCSN obtained several favourable judgments over royalties for music used on television in Nigeria.
According to Moyo Ayilaran, CEO of MCSN, “Through formal communications and meetings, MCSN’s management would now make formal reporting of each settlement’s outcome, with recommendations on how the funds would be allocated.
Ayilaran further said that “the MCSN has assured everyone that all those who have a contractual, legal, or even moral claim to the payment will be paid without regard for sentiment, emotion, or blackmail.”
“It is as a result of this directed that all members who have registered and been admitted into the society’s membership since 2006 update their records, particularly their bank details.”
