Airtel Nigeria has announced the appointment of Surendran, who will be replacing Olusegun Ogunsanya as the telecommunication company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer with effect from 1 August 2021.
BMA’s reliable media sources reported that Surendran would spend his time from 1 June 2021 transitioning into his new role while spending time onboarding into the business until 31 July 2021.
According to the statement released, Airtel Nigeria is confident in appointing Surendran as the new MD and CEO due to his extensive experience with Bharti Airtel since 2003, where he contributed immensely to various roles within customer experience sales and business operations. Surendran was also the Chief Executive Officer of Karnataka, the largest circle in Airtel India, with transactions over one billion dollars in revenue.
In the most recent years, Surendran has delivered an exceptional performance with significant Revenue Market Share (RMS) movement over the last few years, currently at 54%. He has over thirty years of business experience, including fifteen years at Xerox, the statement read.
Surendran has also been appointed to the Executive Committee (EXCO) as its Regional Operating Director reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Africa plc, Olusegun Ogunsanya, who stepped down from his Airtel Nigerian role, now taken by Surendran, to take on a more prominent role as the MD and CEO of Airtel Africa plc from 1 October 2021. Surendran will also be reporting to the Board of Airtel Networks (Nigeria) Limited.
