StarTimes has partnered with the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) on content production to grow the local film industry.
StarTimes Content Director Viki Liu made the announcement after an AGN delegation led by Emeka Rollas and Segun Arinze visited the pay-tv head office in Lagos.
The goal of the alliance, according to Liu, is to tap into the immense pool of original African stories that have yet to be told.
The collaboration will open a new door to a different type of entertainment that Nollywood actors have been doing over the years.
“Because we have complete insight into the industry, the cooperation will successfully allow us to attract more viewers with our proposed entertainment content. The Actors Guild of Nigeria is all about entertainment, as its members are major influencers with millions of fans and followers throughout the world. Our goal is to use entertainment as a soft power technique for a paradigm shift, particularly in Africa, for good attitudinal change,” he stated.
“When StarTimes joined the market roughly twelve years ago, our mandate was to provide digital TV to every home,” Liu said in response to Rollas’ submission. For us, the reception was enormous. We did, however, have more foreign content at one point. In addition, the quality of Nollywood films has risen over time, as has the market. The above mentioned brought about the need to satisfy Nollywood’s ever-increasing appetite. As a result, our new brand objective aims to provide a balanced content offering. We all know that AGN represents the more significant Nollywood industry. StarTimes is delighted to work with the Actors Guild to have a substantial influence on Nollywood, as well as to grow and ensure that filmmakers receive fair compensation for their work.”
