On November 17, Netflix will premiere ‘In My Room,’ a new music-comedy show from famed Nigerian comedian Kehinde Peter, also known as Kenny Blaq. Netflix has licensed the hilarious production to broadcast to audiences worldwide, bringing the 27-year-old to countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Africa for the first time.
The stand-up comedian revealed that his current project, ‘In My Room,’ a one-man show, was shot in Lagos during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. “After seeing a lot of it on Netflix, he created an intimate music comedy event for a few of his fans on Christmas Day last year as a test shoot for the first-ever special attempt.” I’m delighted that Netflix has acquired exclusive rights to the test shoot, Peter said.
“My goal has always been being be a part of an international VOD platform. I knew my day would come after all the hours I spent on Netflix watching some of my favourite comedians such as Kevin Hart, Chris Rock, and Dave Chappelle.”
“This is just the beginning for me; we haven’t even scratched the surface.” I want to be able to provide all of my unique relatable amusing experiences to people of all ethnicities and colours anywhere in the world on demand. Everyone understands how important quality content production is to me, and some people believe I’m insane. However, I feel validated because of the partnership with Netflix.”
On the show, Kenny Blaq reflects on a year stuck indoors amid COVID-19, riffing on airport formalities, his love life, and other topics.
Kennyblaq’s Unic Made Entertainment, in collaboration with Blue Pictures Distribution Limited, will host a premiere on November 17 at Blue Cinemas, Onikan, Lagos, to celebrate the release.
The popular comedian who hosts an annual comedy show called ‘The Oxymoron with Kenny Blaq’ has won numerous awards, including the Future Awards Africa Prize, the Naija FM Comedy Awards, and the 2016 MEAMA for Best Comedy Act in Nigeria.
