International streaming service Netflix has debuted the Kenyan film “Disconnect”, which initially premiered in the country in 2018.
Directed by the award-winning filmmaker David ‘Tosh’ Gitonga, the rom-com Disconnect: The Wedding Planner is a sequel to the 2018 Kenyan film Disconnect.
In this series iteration, the group of young drama-loving Nairobi residents tries to make an investor’s dream wedding a reality.
“After falling victim to a scam, a desperate man races against the clock as he attempts to plan a luxurious destination wedding for an important investor, or rather a very frazzled Pascal Tokodi tries to plan a traditional destination wedding in Mombasa which tests his friendships and causes a lot of drama,” read the synopsis.
“Disconnect: The Wedding Planner” features most of the cast from the first film, including Kate Kamau, Brenda Wairimu and Patricia Kihoro. However, Nick Mutuma, the lead actor in the first film, is noticeably absent as Pascal Tokodi takes over the lead role.
Regarding the film, Gitonga highlighted that the Kenyan sequel was a tough act to follow but tried his best to ensure the storyline was not lost.
The first movie is still available to stream on Netflix, as the sequel premiered on Friday, January 13th.
