Netflix says it has collaborated with Nigeria’s Play Network Studios to remake Nollywood classic: ‘Glamour Girls’. The remake will premiere on its platform on June 24, 2022.
According to the Netflix announcement, the film will be based on the 1994 original story, which Kenneth Nnebue produced. The remake cast include Nse Ikpe-Etim, Sharon Ooja, Joselyn Dumas and Toke Makinwa.
‘Glamour Girls’ follows a story about a young girl’s quest for a better life, but her journey leads her to a questionable lifestyle in the bubbly city of Lagos in Nigeria.
The 1994 original produced the best Nollywood talents, including Sandra Achums, Zack Orji, Liz Benson, Dolly Unachukwu, Gloria Alozie, Ernest Obi, Pat Attah, Ngozi Ezeonu and Eucharia Anunobi.
Last month, Netflix hinted on the film’s acquisition when it released an ad campaign featuring two of the film’s leads- Nse Ikpe-Etim and Sharon Ooja.
The Charles Okpaleke led film production studio later released a teaser confirming that the remake was going to be a Netflix Original. However, the streamer is yet to release details about the film’s plot, director or screenwriters.
Glamour Girls will premiere on Netflix on June 24, 2022.
