Pay-TV operator MultiChoice will offer its DStv subscribers free access to Disney+ in celebration of the streaming services launch in South Africa on 18 May for three months.
MultiChoice has partnered with Walt Disney in a similar contract with Netflix and Amazon Prime to provide the streaming services as over-the-top (OTT) apps on its DStv Explora Ultra decoder.
MultiChoice has announced that it will carry the Disney+ app on its decoder when the streaming platform launches in South Africa next week.
The pay-TV operator is yet to announce the full details of how DStv subscribers might get Disney+ for free as a promotional add-on and on which DStv packages will the streaming service be made available.
As a new stand-alone streaming platform, Disney+ at launch will cost US$7.37 per month or US$73.71 per year as a once-off annual subscription, and also Disney is offering a promotional US$58.85 yearly subscription for South Africans who register interest on its Disneyplus website before the launch on 18 May.
The pay-TV operator shared the news with its DStv subscribers that they will get three months of Disney+ free as part of an “exclusive three-month reward” via the DStv Rewards loyalty programme.
According to Walt Disney Company, Africa’s Senior Vice President and General Manager, Christine Service, Disney+ South Africa will be a “mobile-first platform” where “users can sign up and sign in using their mobile phone and number, adding a layer of efficiency in the logging on process.”
In addition, MultiChoice and Disney will be announcing DStv’s bundling offers for Disney+ subscribers in South Africa soon.
