The committee narrowed them down to five nominees in each category after a thorough vetting process.
“This year’s vetting was just as thorough as prior years. “We were able to cut down to a total of 145 nominees with the support of our member Jury academy, all of whom are from the film industry,” she explained.
Valentine Zikki (Kenya Actors Guild), Moses Wamalwa (Kenya Scripters Guild), Emmah Kibunja (Jambowood), Ernest Livasia (Association of Animation Artists in Kenya), Simiyu Barasa (Riverwood Ensemble), Leo Mutisya (Media Council of Kenya), and Sheila Murumba (Communication Authority of Kenya) were among the members of the jury.
Mr Timothy Owase, the Kenya Film Commission CEO, also reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to ensure that the Kalasha International Film and Television Awards continue to recognise and celebrate local talent.
“The Kenya Film Commission remains dedicated to the local film industry and remains aware of the importance of continuing to provide opportunities for local filmmakers to be acknowledged for their contributions to the industry’s advancement.”
“With the 11th edition, in collaboration with industry stakeholders, we are reaffirming our commitment to driving this agenda for the next decade, ensuring that local talent is showcased at home and abroad,” Mr Owase added.
The Kalasha International Film and Television Awards have been held annually for ten years to honour Kenyan filmmakers. The announcement of the nominations sets the stage for public voting, which commenced on November 3rd and will end on December 3rd, 2021, with the Awards ceremony following on December 10th. The public vote usually accounts for 30 per cent of the total vote, while the jury vote accounts for 70 per cent of the total vote.
