According to Showmax’s latest viewing statistics, Crime and Justice, Njoro wa Uba, This Love, and three other Kenyan shows were among the top ten most-watched titles on Showmax in Kenya for 2021.
It’s no wonder that the Showmax original Crime and Justice made it to the top of the most-watched list in 2021, given that it reigned supreme for nine weeks after debuting in February of last year.
The police procedural and legal drama chronicles the fictional Nairobi Metropol Police Department’s ripped-from-the-headlines investigations, led by-the-book Detective Silas (Alfred Munyua) and the committed Detective Makena (Sarah Hassan).
Crime and Justice was nominated for all three major awards in the TV Drama category, including a Best Actress win (for Hassan) at the 2021 Kalasha Awards.
The coveted list also included Eugene Mbugua’s docu-reality series This Love and Sol Family S2.
Njoro wa Uba, a comedy-drama directed by Lucy Mwangi, was also a hit among Kenyans.
The show has been described as one of the most relatable shows in Kenya to capture the everyday struggles of ordinary citizens.
Njoro wa Uba won Best Lead Actor (Joe Kinyua) and Best TV Drama at the 2021 Kalasha Awards in December.
Swahili telenovela Selina is joining the local slate of most-watched in 2021, appearing for the third year in a row.
“Selina has broken the glass ceiling,” director and producer Reuben Odanga said. “It plays a vital role in the industry because it’s a first in many ways.”
