Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and Spacecom, an Israeli satellite services operator, have announced a partnership. As part of the agreement, KBC’s DTT service will be broadcast through the AMOS-17 HTS (high throughput satellite) digital satellite. In addition, KBC will receive on-the-ground professional services from Spacecom to migrate Signet’s DTT service to AMOS-17.
KBC’s Signet broadcasts over 70 TV stations and a slew of radio stations across Kenya and into South Africa.
“AMOS-17’s robust C-band HTS beams increased signal quality and maximised spectrum utilisation, allowing Signet to swiftly and easily upgrade the content quality and service levels,” stated Oren Tepper, Spacecom Global Vice President sales. In addition, Spacecom’s professional services teams completed this project with a record-breaking migration of Signet’s services with no service interruptions. We are excited to collaborate with KBC’s Signet team and look forward to a long and fruitful partnership.”
“To further improve our service delivery, we transferred our satellite infrastructure to AMOS-17, reaping considerable operating cost reductions,” said Job Karimi, KBC’s Technical Services Manager. In addition, we were able to construct ideal link margins to our remote transmission sites thanks to AMOS-17’s HTS capabilities.
“The migration turnaround time was under very short timelines. However, the highly trained crew successfully relocated 38 sites within three weeks without interrupting the transmission schedule. Furthermore, Spacecom has also supported KBC’s day-to-day operations, constantly looking for new areas to collaborate further to deepen the relationship. They are strategic partners and vital to our mission’s success,” Karimi concluded.
