Eyimofe (This Is My Desire), a Nigerian film that looks at the pressures of everyday life in Nigeria and the desperate measures people take to survive, and the unrelenting desire to escape to a better life abroad, be premiering on Sunday, 18 April.
According to reports, GDN Studios, a division of The Guardian Group, has announced the premiere and cinema release dates of its debut film Eyimofe (This Is My Desire) following its global festival run saw the film winning numerous awards. Festival critics, directors and media praised the film, stating the outstanding efforts displayed by Arie and Chuko Esiri on the first feature film.
The film was selected to run in twenty different countries, including prestigious festivals such as Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), where it had its world premiere. The film also ran in other globally recognised festivals such as the American Film Institute (AFI) Film Festival and British Institute’s London Film Festival. Eyimofe team secured wins for Best Fiction for New Filmmakers at São Paulo International Film Festival in Brazil. It also won the Achille Valdata Award’ at the Torino Film Festival in Italy.
A statement released by co-directors Arie and Chuko says that Eyimofe is special to us, not because it is our full-length feature, but due to the fantastic support we received from cast and crew other supporters. We are grateful to GDN Studios for allowing us to tell this touching story without compromising the production value and assisting in giving the film global exposure. The premiere is set to occur at EbonyLife Place in Victoria Island, Lagos; after that, it will open in cinemas on Friday 23 April in cinemas across Nigeria.
