
In the penultimate round of matchday 33, pay-TV service provider StarTimes, the official broadcaster of the Ghana Premier League, delivered on their promise to give historical coverage to Ghana Premier League viewers.
As the season draws to a close, the football fraternity watched two live matches telecast concurrently from distinct league centres for the first time in Ghanaian football history. Matches between Ghana’s two most glamorous clubs, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, who were both vying for the title, were broadcast live on screens at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 11 2021.
Before matchday 33, the Ghana Football Association announced that all but one of the games would be broadcast concurrently at 3 p.m. on Sunday. StarTimes, the official broadcaster, informed fans that it would carry the two matches live on DTH and OTT.
The Hearts of Oak vs Liberty match was shown live on decoder on StarTimes Adepa, with footage from the Bechem United vs Kotoko match projected on a split-screen to allow viewers to see both games. The game between Bechem United and Kotoko, which resulted in a 2-1 defeat for the Porcupine Warriors, was broadcast live on Adepa Star, a virtual pop-up channel available only through the StarTimes ON App. The broadcaster has received high praise for their master class display.
With the season coming to a close this coming weekend, supporters are looking forward to another great show from StarTimes, which has given the Ghana Premier League a new lease on life in terms of television coverage.
