Fox Entertainment and Fox Alternative Entertainment (FAE), its in-house unscripted studio, have launched an international fund to identify and develop unscripted programming for international markets.
As part of Fox Entertainment’s strategy to build and diversify its content and revenue streams portfolio, the fund will invest and develop internationally originated unscripted program concepts ranging from variety series, reality competitions, and dating and other genres for regional networks and platforms.
FAE will co-produce series with each series’ partner, providing local broadcasters with cost-effective programming. The fund will be managed by Rob Wade, Fox Entertainment’s President of Alternative Entertainment and Specials.
“Fox has long been a global pioneer in alternative programming,” Charlie Collier, CEO of Fox Entertainment, said of the fund. With an exceptional track record of almost three decades of success, there are high expectations that the platform will continue to be the world’s preeminent platform in the genre. This fund will allow us to continue discovering and curating formats that will help us achieve several key objectives, including diversifying our slate of owned content, expanding FOX’s global interests, and better serving our platform partners.”
“Many of the most influential shows that have changed the face of television were unscripted formats that originated outside of the United States,” Wade added. With a deep well of untapped ideas waiting to be recognised throughout the world, FAE is ready to use this format fund to engage with local creators and networks to develop cost-effective and innovative, broad-based programming that will benefit Fox here at home if it succeeds.”
In collaboration with Dublin-based BiggerStage, FAE recently produced the variety competition programme, ‘The Big Deal’ for Virgin Media Television in Ireland. I Can See Your Voice, Name That Tune and The Masked Dance are among the titles produced by the company, founded in 2019 to oversee Fox’s The Masked Singer.
