Streaming services are spanning markets and generating new opportunities for offering high-quality programming with economic appeal in ways never seen before after years of impressive growth. The streaming market, also referred to as the OTT (over-the-top) market, encompasses all types of media services and content offered to customers directly online, bypassing traditional cable, broadcast, and satellite television networks and platforms. It thus covers increasingly popular SVOD (subscription video on demand) services and music streaming and video game services. Moreover, the trend is projected to continue in the future, owing to a surge in global demand for video streaming accelerated by the global Covid-19 pandemic.
Broadcast Media Africa (BMA), together with significant industry representatives from across the African continent, namely: the Southern African Broadcasting Association (SABA), the Communications Regulators of Southern Africa (CRASA), the Zambia Film Makers Association, and the Independent Producers’ Organisation (South Africa), will be hosting a hybrid industry forum from Wednesday, 20 October to Thursday 21 October 2021, in Johannesburg, South Africa (and online).
