The Durban FilmMart Institute has issued a call for the 2022 Durban FilmMart (DFM) project submissions.
The Durban FilmMart is an annual pan-African funding and co-production market, with this year’s edition scheduled to take place from July 22 to July 26.
Designed to foster partnerships and advance African cinema’s development and production, the DFM was named “the continent’s best film market” in UNESCO’s 2021 Film Trends in Africa Report.
According to the Durban FilmMart Institute’s General Manager, Magdalene Reddy, ” DFM’s vision is to encourage the growth of the African film industry by developing film projects and connecting African filmmakers from across the continent and the rest of the world.”
“The Durban FilmMart is an important forum for African producers to meet and interact with key film professionals from across the globe,” Reddy added.
Filmmakers are invited to apply for the following three DFM programmes: DFM Finance and Pitch Forum (DFM Official Projects), Content Shop, or Talents Durban.
DFM Finance and Pitch Forum (DFM Official Projects) is for fiction and documentary film projects starring Africans in major creative roles (writers, directors, and producers) looking for co-producers, financiers, sales agents, and funders. The production must have a producer and a director. Selected projects will go through a two-day packaging and mentorship programme, a pitching session to film financiers, distributors and buyers from across the globe, followed by one-on-one meetings.
The deadline for applications is February 20, 2022.
Talents Durban is for African screenwriters and directors working on fiction, documentary, animation, and hybrid projects in various media formats, including film, television series, web series, and mobile content.
Applicants must have a portfolio of previous work and a current project in the works.
The deadline for entries is March 4, 2022.
Content Shop is a curated digital catalogue of film projects to expand opportunities, foster inclusion, and promote African filmmakers’ access to markets. Selected projects will be presented exclusively to international programmers, sales companies, distributors, broadcasters, exhibitors, and talent agents.
The deadline for entries is February 25, 2022.
