The Multichoice Group has announced its addition of the Google-owned streaming platform, YouTube, to its DSTV Explora Ultra, allowing subscribers to access the platform directly from their decoders. This launch follows after streaming services such as Showmax, Box Office, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Joox were recently added to DSTV’s Personal Video Recorder (PVR) decoder.
According to reports, Nyiko Shiburi, the Multichoice CEO in South Africa, the DSTV Explora Ultra continues to expand the company’s offering by enabling, through partnerships, access to the world’s most prominent content services popular brands. Through this partnership between YouTube and DSTV, Multichoice’s vision to be a one-stop-shop for content access, whereby customers can select a variety of shows ranging from local to international content on a single device is being realised, added Shiburi.
In explaining the offering, Multichoice said that the Explora Ultra Discovery And Launch protocol (DIAL) would give YouTube access to a second device without pairing. Additionally, to enjoy this offering, customers must have DSTV’s Explora Ultra and active DSTV subscription, pay the access fee and have a high-speed and stable internet connection. Owing to this offering, DSTV subscribers will also have access to content on the recently launched YouTube channel SuperSport Schools which offers live streams, highlights, and profiles of school sports across South Africa.
