Recently, the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) carried out an anti-piracy sensitisation campaign in different areas of the country as part of its efforts to curtail the proliferation of pirated works in Nigeria.
Mathew Ojo, Director, NCC Lagos Office, led the team of NCC operatives in the company of newsmen on the campaign covering areas including Iyana-Liepaja, Oshodi, Ojo, Iyana-Iba, and Mushin metropolis the state.
The Director stated that the anti-piracy exercise aimed to enlighten the public on the ills of piracy while also checking the hot spots of vending pirated works within the city.
He said, “the Commission earlier carried out several sensitisation programmes to enlighten the sellers of copyright works not to patronise pirated works but buy the original works. Very soon, the Commission will carry out anti-piracy raids across Lagos, and any vendor found wanting will be arrested, and the pirated works will be seized. In contrast, the culprit will serve as a scapegoat to others.”
Ojo further emphasised that the anti-piracy sensitisation campaigns were meant to warn sellers of Compact Discs (CDs), Video CDs, and other copyright works to avoid selling pirated items.
He assured authors of works that the Commission remained determined to ensure they would enjoy the dividends of their hard labour.
