BET has confirmed October dates for the second season of the sitcom Black Tax, the fifth season of Behind the Story, and seven South African short films under the 7 Deadly Sins thematic umbrella, broadcast on Africa’s pay-tv platform, MultiChoice- DStv channel 129.
On Saturday, October 9th at 19:00, the second season of the comedic series Black Tax will premiere on BET. The comedy series is produced in collaboration with MultiChoice’s video streaming service Showmax and will feature the same cast as in season one, with some new faces. BET Africa’s first South African-produced sitcom, Black Tax, follows Thuli, a successful, young, professional black woman who struggles with “black tax” that many middle-class African families experience.
Behind the Story, a “reverted” version of the profile talk show, will premiere on Saturday, October 9th at 18:30 with a new presenter that BET isn’t revealing with the date announcement. According to BET, the unnamed host of the 5th season of Behind the Story will do profile interviews with several artists and celebrities as they open up about their professional and personal successes and struggles, as well as the headline stories that surround them.
In collaboration with the KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission (KZNFC), BET produced 7 Deadly Sins, a series of seven short films produced by seven different production companies in the KwaZulu-Natal province. The brief was to create stories based on the concept mentioned above, with each production company offering their take on the “7 deadly sins” through the eyes of young African filmmakers.
Monde Twala, senior vice president and general manager of ViacomCBS Networks Africa and peer lead for BET International, states, “how excited BET is to continue their commitment to elevating local storytelling and talent via authentic and engaging entertainment.”
“For the channel, the last two years have been transformative. From comedy to drama, mystery and intrigue, the channel’s planned content line-up showcases the best in black culture entertainment.”
Twala continued to express pride in their objective of realising local and international content productions that engage with people and highlight black excellence.
