The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) organisers have announced a change of format for the eighth edition of the awards. This year’s show will run for eight days instead of the traditional one day hosting of the celebration.
The awards show last ran in 2020 and, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, could not take place in 2021.
The change of format announcement comes with a confirmation date, which will be from Saturday, May 7, 2022, to Saturday, May 14, 2022, with Saturday, May 7 dedicated to the AMVCA Opening night, according to the organisers.
From Sunday, May 8, the day will be focused on a runway show held in partnership with BellaNaija Style, tagged ‘Design for the Stars’, and will feature a competition for budding fashion designers.
Monday, May 9, will focus on the Multichoice Talent Factory and feature film screenings and panel discussions by MTF academy students.
May 10 will be dedicated to the ‘Africa Magic Session with Content Creators’. In addition, the industry and stakeholders will be hosted to a special ‘Africa Magic Content Market Day’.
May 11 will be ‘Pan-African Food Festival and Cultural Day’, an all-encompassing show, whilst May 12 will be solely dedicated to digital content creators.
Award Nominees will enjoy a special gala dinner on Friday, May 13, with the main show on Saturday, May 14. According to Busola Tejumola, the Head of Content, Africa Magic, $500m has been budgeted for the development of indigenous content in five years. Furthermore, the ‘Best Soundtrack’ category winner will also go home with N1m.
The awards nominees will be announced on Saturday, March 19, 2022.
