Lizabé is passionate about popular music and cultural heritage – preserving it for the future and making it accessible for creative and innovative projects. For the past ten years, Lizabé has worked as a researcher and as an archivist building and maintaining one of the biggest and fastest-growing popular music archives in South Africa, the Hidden Years Music Archive at Stellenbosch University. Lizabé is the Director of Archives at the Africa Open Institute for Music, Research and Innovation at Stellenbosch University and I hold a Volkswagen Foundation Research Fellowship award.
Lizabé obtained her PhD in 2012 and have since worked on a number of curatorial, archival and research projects that explore the potential that music archives harbour to actively engage with issues of community, recognition and value in South Africa. Lizabé serves on the executive committee of the South African Society for Research in Music.
